As the saying goes: from little acorns mighty oaks will grow!!
At last posters can see who the officer is around here: gold braided name tag...

Describing orange as gold braided... It definately reveals the poet in you!
Gold braided just means verified username. As soon as I am through with testing of the long awaited user-management, everybody will be able to change the color of his name from the old glittering white stardust to gold braided.
those oaks keep growing in all colors and all shapes a slow motion blast

DTO, hope I do you justice...
I'd like to cross-post a portion of DTO's earlier post (which is the first post now at newly-created page for author Hampton Sides) because I believe DTO's intention was actually to indicate the powerful impact Bravo Two Zero (and Andy's writing) had on him: "I read a book about two years ago by Hampton Sides "Ghost Soldiers" in which he wrote about the Bataan Death March and the subsequent liberation of Cabotaan the POW camp. -- (snip) -- I thought till now that this was one of the very best books that I have ever read. It is extremely well wrote, and you can turn the pages as fast as you can read them. The story still is with me today.
As I started B20, and as quickly as you can say, "Bobs your Uncle," I was finished. What a great book. It will stay with me on the level that Ghost Soldiers did. How anyone can survive what he went through is truely amazing.
I started Liberation Day last night and am finding it good thus far."
Thanks for the info on Ghost Soldiers, DTO. I am unfamiliar with Hampton Sides but will look for this book next time I'm at the library....

I didn't know the "Side Hampton" page existed, but it does seem logical to shift relevant material to that page...
I posted to the archive in reply to DTO on the basis that offboard talk was to the effect "get back to AM/NS and no more deviation" - much the same said here over the last few postings on the subject of one op mission!!!
Somebody get out the iced coffee and pass round the biscuits, please....
>>By buddy (Tuesday, 29 Apr 2003 01:09)

Holland, April 29th
Thanks Swedish Reader (so glad to have you back) for the news of the interview. And Paul's back too I noticed.
I'll go check out the Karen site. Is coffee and burgers an option too?? Like to have the best of both worlds...
Lynn

Re buddy and paul: No iced coffee & burgers but perhaps biscuits & bourbons? No, I think I'll have a glass of water and a banana for breakfast...
Re am i binned: Spoiler warning is a good idea.
Do you want to HEAR AM's stories? Listen to the audio books Immediate Action and/or B20. Andy himself is telling the stories (not really reading the books). In B20 "Jilly" talks about when/what/how info was given to her.
>>By Swedish reader (Tuesday, 29 Apr 2003 10:12)
Paul R: it's what you slip into the iced coffee that counts!! I was doing my elegant lady bit for hot-talking morning coffee...
Tell you what: you get out the bar-b and I'll bring the suped-up coffee, and we'll all go finger-licking wild!!!
Tell Andy to drop by...
>>By buddy (Tuesday, 29 Apr 2003 10:13)
Hahahaha,
we posted same time Sw.Reader... talking about same minds.. funny how you would choose the exact opposite
That doesn't mean we're opposites - it means we supplement each other ;-)

Swedish Reader:
Narration (audio versions) Andy's books...
I was told Steven Pacey does Andy's narration...In fact, an ex SAS guy suggested an actor stood in for book cover pics (Remote Control). Also, the pics bandied around on the Internet - black band across eyes wearing combats and beard/stubble, are computer generated images...If you don't believe that's possible, would you like to see how virtual reality is achieved? I can show you a Claudia Schieffer lookalike, but anyone who disapproves of nudity and adult sites best not to request url!! The girl on the front page of the site would make for a great virtual reality Sara!!! devonwren@yahoo.com

Re buddy: I'm not talking about his novels. Just IM and B20. I've got the audio books and I think he's the voice.
Paul Can I change the bourbons to Irish cream please?

Geez, ya try to get a little bit of needed sleep and ya miss da party! Guess I'll just stumble into the kitchen and make my morning brew....wait, will make up some of Buddy's breakfast of champions! Yeah, that'll help....
Oooooh! Don't get me started on audios! I am the absolute King, Queen, Jack and Ace in that department! Yes, it's a fact! I rule!
B20 (abridged) Andy B20 (unabridged) Christian Rodska IA (a) Andy IA (un) Steven Pacey RC (a-UK) Jack Davenport RC (semi-a-US) Joe Barrett RC (un) Ric Jerrome CF (a) Jack Davenport CF (un-UK) Clive Mantle CF (un-US) Steven Crossley F (a) Colin Buchanan F (un) Clive Mantle LL (a) Colin Buchanan LL (un) Clive Mantle LD (a) Steven Pacey
And all that without my caffeine yet! Now I'm behind sched for kids & school... critiques of various performances will have to wait (consider yourselves spared!) -- but obviously one performance is outstanding! far beyond all the rest! Christian Rodska! (ouch! -- slapped myself for that one!) Actually tho' CR is the closest to the real AM -- or the Sgt. as Paul calls him...

Due to locally based AirWales flights I can now take 40min flight to London Airport or flit off to various European/Channel Island destinations - local airport twenty minutes from my front door...
How about a fun day/eve in London, dinner & overnight stay in hotel, one day?! We'll invite AM and agent, and pin latter to table cloth...

DTO,
As far as I can remember, you are dissatisfied with the service I offer here since day one. Even so, you keep using it. Believe me, I just try to satisfy everybody around here - including you. If I fail to do so - there's no one forcing you to use this service.
I'm afraid that if I start offboarding with you, you will once again involve me in a lengthy discussion about how I handle things here. This is something I really do not want to discuss again and again. For this time: I think, it would be more productive if you just announce, what you would like me to do. Would you prefer to have your post in the Hampton Sides forum moved back to this forum? Would you like it to be deleted? For the future: Please note, that I will not be able to discuss every moderator-action and accept personal requests to do this or that. Even with the help of lots of coffee, I was not able to lift the 24 hours per day limit yet.

SAS pair freed after escape to Syria Richard Norton-Taylor - The Guardian Tuesday April 29, 2003
Highlights/excerpts: "Two SAS soldiers held by Syria after escaping from Iraqis have been freed, it was revealed yesterday. ... The pair were among 10 special forces soldiers attacked by tribesmen after being dropped by helicopter near Mosul in northern Iraq. The Iraqis captured their Land Rover and heavy weapons. ... Eight were quickly extracted, but two escaped across the border into Syria where they are believed to have given themselves up to the authorities. ... The men were part of a team of special forces soldiers believed to be 30 to 40 strong who were dropped into northern Iraq to carry out reconnaissance and sabotage and cut off escape routes in north-west Iraq. They had split into smaller patrols when one of the patrols came under fire. Most of the team were rescued by Chinook helicopter after they made off on foot for nearby hills. ... Two who were missing had made their way to Syria where they gave themselves up. ... The Ministry of Defence never comments on any such operation. According to al-Jazeera, 10 British soldiers were killed. UK sources suggested none was killed. ... It is known that at least 200 SAS soldiers, and others from the Special Boat Service, its naval equivalent, have been in Iraq throughout the war. ... The story of two SAS men - and the others involved in the mission - might compare to Bravo Two Zero, an account of an SAS patrol in the Iraqi desert in the 1991 Gulf war by its leader, Andy McNab. The MoD has since introduced strict contracts for SAS soldiers officially preventing them from saying anything about their activities."

Okay, this a big ALERT -- the way MG has this set up now, we have click to "accept" every time before clicking "save your text" to post!
Out of habit, I just messed up when I went to post my previous message. I hit the "save your text" before checking the Discussion box. I lost my post entirely -- Big Big Ouch! -- and ended up having to recreate the message! I'm too lazy to enjoy doing that!
Major self-inflicted headache maker! Glad it wasn't one of my really long rambley epistles! Come to think of it, though, maybe you're all glad too (grin, wink!)
